VA Disability Pay Chart
The 2026 VA disability compensation table pays from $180.42 per month at 10% to $3,938.58 per month at 100% for a Veteran with no dependents. The current rates became effective December 1, 2025.
VA disability compensation is a monthly tax-free benefit for eligible service-connected disabilities. A 30% or higher rating can also increase the standard payment for qualifying spouse, child, or dependent parent relationships. VA publishes the current compensation table by rating and dependent status.
At 10% and 20%, qualifying dependents do not raise the standard basic rate. At 30% and above, the payment depends on the final VA rating and eligible dependents. Multiple individual disability percentages are combined using VA rating math rather than simple addition.

How VA disability rating turns into monthly compensation
The standard payment table uses the final VA combined disability rating, rounded to a compensable 10% increment. Individual condition ratings cannot be added together as ordinary percentages.
For example, VA states that two disabilities each rated 10% combine to 19%, which then rounds to a 20% combined rating. VA explains the combined-rating method and publishes the combined ratings table.
A Veteran rated 70% with a spouse and one child has a 2026 basic monthly rate of $2,074.45. Two additional children under age 18 add $76 each at that rating.
If that same 70% Veteran has three children under 18 and a spouse receiving Aid and Attendance, the official VA example totals $2,367.45 per month.
Individual Unemployability can pay an eligible Veteran at the 100% compensation rate even when the schedular combined rating remains below 100%. VA lists the general TDIU eligibility framework.
Special Monthly Compensation is separate from the standard rate table. SMC can add or substitute higher amounts for specific qualifying disabilities or circumstances.

VA Disability Pay Calculator
Select the final VA disability rating and qualifying dependents. The tool looks up the standard 2026 compensation rate and applies listed dependent additions.
Estimated monthly pay
$2,367.45
Standard 2026 disability compensation under the selected inputs.
Annualized amount
$28,409.40
Monthly rate × 12; VA disability compensation is generally tax-free.
Basic table rate
$2,074.45
Includes the selected spouse, parent, and first-child configuration when eligible.
Added amounts
$293.00
Additional children and spouse Aid and Attendance additions in this lookup.
Important: 10% and 20% ratings do not receive higher standard basic compensation because of dependents. The calculator therefore ignores dependent additions below 30%.
Children: when at least one qualifying child is entered, the first child is included in the basic child rate. Additional under-18 and qualifying school children use the VA listed added amounts.
Not included: Special Monthly Compensation, TDIU eligibility determination, temporary 100% ratings, clothing or automobile allowances, DIC, pension, offsets, apportionment, or other special VA programs.
The calculation runs only in your browser. No rating or dependent information is transmitted or stored.
VA Disability Rating and Pay Rules
The payment table starts with the final VA combined rating. Multiple individual ratings are not simply added together.
Swipe horizontally inside the table to view every column.
| Rule | How it works | Example | Why it matters for pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ratings use 10% increments | Standard compensation table runs from 10% through 100% | 30%, 40%, 50% and so on | The final rounded combined rating selects the basic pay column |
| Multiple ratings use VA combined-rating math | Remaining efficiency is considered as ratings are combined | 10% + 10% combines to 19%, then rounds to 20% — VA ratings do not simply add | Simple addition can overstate the final combined rating |
| Dependents affect pay from 30%+ | Qualifying spouse, child and parent dependents can raise monthly compensation | 30% with spouse is higher than 30% Veteran alone | Dependent status changes the basic table row |
| 10% and 20% dependency rule | No higher standard basic rate for dependents | 20% remains $356.66 with or without dependents | Do not add spouse or child amounts at these ratings |
| Individual Unemployability | Qualifying Veterans can be compensated at the 100% rate | Schedular rating may remain below 100% | Payment level and schedular percentage are not always the same |
| Special Monthly Compensation | Separate higher or added compensation for specific qualifying circumstances | SMC-K is a separate rate variation | Standard disability table alone may not equal total VA compensation |
- • The bilateral factor can affect certain combined-rating calculations.
- • Use the official VA rating decision or VA combined-rating tool to determine the final combined rating before looking up pay.

Common VA disability pay mistakes and special cases
Do not add individual ratings together
VA combined-rating math accounts for remaining efficiency. Use the official combined rating, not the arithmetic sum of individual percentages, to choose a pay rate.
Do not add dependents at 10% or 20%
The 2026 basic rates remain $180.42 at 10% and $356.66 at 20% regardless of dependent spouse, child, or parent status.
Do not assume 100% schedular and TDIU are identical
TDIU can pay at the 100% compensation rate while the schedular combined rating stays below 100%. Employment rules and other benefit consequences can differ.
SMC requires a separate lookup
Special Monthly Compensation uses separate levels, qualifying circumstances, dependency rates, and additions. It is not calculated by multiplying the standard disability percentage.
Temporary 100% ratings, hospitalization, convalescence, prestabilization, SMC, TDIU, clothing allowance, automobile allowance, apportionment, military retirement offsets, Combat-Related Special Compensation, Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay, and other programs can change total payments beyond this standard disability-rate lookup.
