What is an ideal body weight chart?

An ideal body weight chart compares height-based formula outputs. It does not reveal one biologically perfect weight. Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi use different constants, so the same adult height can produce several legitimate formula results.

A published review of ideal-body-weight equations explains that historical formulas and BMI-based ranges are not perfectly aligned. The safest interpretation is to name the method, understand its purpose, and use personal health context separately.

MedlinePlus advises medical review for unexplained loss of about 10 pounds, 4.5 kilograms, or 5% of usual body weight over 6 to 12 months or less. Seek help sooner for fainting, severe weakness, dehydration, breathing difficulty, chest symptoms, rapid swelling, or eating-disorder behaviors.
